“Count Me In!”: McGregor Eyes White House Fight

UFC superstar Conor McGregor has thrown his hat in the ring for what could be the most audacious sporting event in American history. The former two-division champion has enthusiastically volunteered to fight at the UFC event President Donald Trump has proposed to hold on the grounds of the White House on July 4, 2026.

In a social media post celebrating the idea, McGregor wrote, “Happy 4th of July, USA. Excited with President Trump announcing a UFC fight event at the White House. I would be honoured! Count me in!

From a Broken Leg to the President’s Lawn?

McGregor’s eagerness to participate comes as he is still working to return to the octagon. He has not competed since suffering a horrific leg break during his fight with Dustin Poirier in July 2021. A highly anticipated comeback fight against Michael Chandler was recently canceled after McGregor suffered a new, undisclosed injury.

Despite the setbacks, the Irish fighter is clearly aiming for a spectacular return. His interest in the White House event underscores his ambition and his unique ability to command the sports world’s attention.

A “President” in the Octagon?

Never one for understatement, McGregor also used the opportunity to promote his own burgeoning political ambitions in his native Ireland. In a follow-up post, he made a truly spectacular claim.

“July 4th next year is a Saturday,” he wrote, looking ahead to the 2026 event. “I will be reigning President of Ireland for just under 1 year when I step out on the lawns of the White House to throw down. Epic proportions! Or as I like to call it, Tuesday at the office. Vote McGregor.”

A Spectacle in the Making

The proposed event is part of President Trump’s plan for a nationwide celebration of America’s 250th birthday. As reported by CBS Sports, Trump envisions a full championship fight card held in a temporary 25,000-seat venue on the White House grounds.

UFC CEO Dana White, a longtime friend and supporter of President Trump, has reacted with enthusiasm, posting online, “This will be epic!!!” The combination of Trump’s showmanship, White’s promotional savvy, and McGregor’s star power could make for one of the most unforgettable sporting events of all time.
