A new Yahoo News/YouGov poll indicated that former President Donald Trump is ahead of every prospective Republican candidate in a group scenario and a head-to-head matchup.
The study revealed that Trump was not only 28 points ahead of a group of Republican candidates that included former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, anti-woke billionaire Vivek Ramaswamy, Sen. Tim Scott, former Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson, and even the once formidable Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis.
Among Republican voters, Trump has a 55 percent to 31 percent advantage against DeSantis in a head-to-head battle.
DeSantis received 25% of the vote, 28 points behind Trump’s 53%, and no other contender even came close to him in the poll. Fewer than 3% of people backed the others.
Haley did not perform much better, receiving only 18% of the Republican vote to Trump’s 70%.
Compared to Scott, who entered the presidential race in May, Trump’s edge widens even further. He has a majority of the vote with 69% compared to Scott’s minority support of 18%.
With only 16% of the vote compared to Trump’s 73%, former VP Mike Pence, who is widely anticipated to start his presidential campaign in Iowa next week, is clearly in second place.
Trump has 77 percent support compared to 10 percent for former New Jersey governor Chris Christie, who, like Pence, is expected to declare a presidential run next week.
The study also compared Trump’s chances to those of Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin and indicated that Trump would win by 62 points.
The study of 1,520 American adults was conducted between May 25 and 30, 2023. It comes a week before two other possible contenders enter the contest.
