(PatrioticPost.com)- A recent poll shows that the proportion of Americans who consider their nation the world’s leading economic power has grown since 2021.
According to a Gallup survey, 44% of Americans feel that the United States presently controls the world’s economy, up from 37% in 2021.
In the Gallup poll, 44% of Americans predicted that the United States would be the world’s economic leader in 20 years, while 37% said China would hold that position.
While China had been the leading economic power for more than a decade previous to 2020, when the outbreak broke out in Wuhan, China, a much greater majority of Americans (50%) felt that the United States was the dominant economic power rather than China (39%).
The share of Americans who rank China as the world’s leading economic superpower has dropped from 50% in 2021 to 42% this year. It’s a two-point advantage for Washington, DC, against Beijing.
Results from the study are being released as tensions between the United States and China rise. The poll was conducted between February 1 and February 23. During this period, the United States shot down a Chinese surveillance balloon that had entered American airspace. Yet there were also worries that China may arm Russia to help it in its fight with Ukraine.
Even though the United States has been struggling but has shown signs of resilience in the face of growing prices and forecasts of a recession, China has reopened its borders to revive its economy after being forced to shutter them because of pandemic shutdowns.
The margin of sampling error for the Gallup survey was four percentage points, based on a sample size of 1,008 adults in the United States.
