A Posthumous Honor for a Remarkable Life
The 2025 Grammy Awards honored former President Jimmy Carter with a posthumous win in the audiobook, narration, and storytelling category. This marks Carter’s fourth Grammy in this category, establishing a new record and solidifying his legacy beyond politics. The winning audiobook, “Last Sundays in Plains: A Centennial Celebration,” captures Carter’s final Sunday school teachings at Maranatha Baptist Church in Georgia.
Jason Carter, Jimmy Carter’s grandson, accepted the award on behalf of his late grandfather. In his acceptance speech, Jason expressed gratitude for the global outpouring of love and emphasized the significance of preserving his grandfather’s words.

The Grammy win sets Carter apart in the audiobook category. He now surpasses Maya Angelou for the most wins in this field.
The former president’s previous Grammy victories were for “Faith: A Journey for All,” “A Full Life: Reflections at Ninety,” and “Our Endangered Values: America’s Moral Crisis.” These accolades underscore Carter’s ability to connect with audiences through his words and experiences, even after his tenure in the White House.
“Having his words captured in this way for my family and for the world is truly remarkable,” Jason Carter said at the event.
The winning audiobook, released in August 2024 shortly before Carter’s 100th birthday, features contributions from musicians Darius Rucker, Lee Ann Rimes, and Jon Batiste. This collaborative effort adds depth and resonance to Carter’s teachings, making the album a unique blend of spiritual guidance and musical artistry.
