(PatrioticPost.com)- On Tuesday, the White House announced a new comprehensive strategy to address the nation’s military veteran suicide problem.
According to reports, the new strategy from the White House will focus on ensuring that the “time and space between a person in crisis and their access to lethal means, including firearms and medication.” It will also focus on enhancing crisis care and increasing access to “effective care.”
The White House also said that they aim to look at financial strain as a source for veteran suicide, including food insecurity, unemployment, and a lack of housing.
Since 2010, the White House has acknowledged a serious problem with regards to veteran suicide, with more than 65,000 veterans having committed suicide since that year. That’s more than the number of soldiers who died during combat in the Vietnam War, the Iraq War, and the Afghanistan War combined.
President Joe Biden addressed the new plans saying that he has long said that the only true sacred obligation as Americans is to “prepare and properly equip our women and men in uniform when we send them into harm’s way, and to care for them and their families when they return.” He said that for too many veterans, however, the government is falling short.
The government is falling short for serving members of the military, too, forcing them to leave the armed forces if they refuse to take the experimental COVID-19 vaccine.
White House officials said that suicide is a “complex problem” that doesn’t have a single source or a single solution. The president is expected to begin working closely with the Department of Defense and the Department of Veterans Affairs to initiate the new strategy.
It’s great and all, but it sounds kind of vague, doesn’t it?
