U.S. Intel Official Accused Of Inappropriate Relationship

(PatrioticPost.com)- According to a 2020 report from the Defense Department’s Office of the Inspector General, a Pentagon intelligence official overseeing some of the Defense Department’s most sensitive portfolios had engaged in inappropriate conduct with a female subordinate and was improperly using a personal email account for official business.

But even after the IG completed its investigation in April 2020, this official was still carrying out a series of high-profile tasks for the Pentagon.

Garry Reid, 63, has worked at the Pentagon for 15 years. During the disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan in 2021, Reid led the Afghanistan Crisis Action Group.

Politico reported last week that two sources claimed Reid was recently relieved of duty as the Pentagon’s director of defense intelligence for counterintelligence, law enforcement, and security. However, a third source told Politico that he was still on the job as of last week.

The IG investigation was prompted by at least four anonymous complaints dating back to 2019. The probe investigated Reid’s relationship with two separate female subordinates over claims that included inappropriate hugging and kissing, commuting to work and exercising with one of the women with whom he was also holding frequent private meetings and lunches giving the appearance that Reid and the woman were having an intimate relationship.

The IG’s 2020 report concluded that Reid’s conduct “created a widespread perception of an inappropriate relationship and favoritism.” However, the investigation found no evidence substantiating the allegation that Reid and the woman were engaged in a sexual affair, an allegation both denied at the time.

The Inspector-General also found that Reid violated Pentagon policy when he used his personal email to conduct official business. However, the emails from his personal account did not include classified information.

The two-year-old report was made public under the Freedom of Information Act and was first reported by the science and technology website, DeBrief.

Two former government officials told Politico that Reid is also named in a separate IG complaint alleging that Defense officials retaliated against a former employee who went public in 2017 with claims that officials weren’t taking reports about UFOs seriously enough.
