DOJ Bolsters Border Security With New Prosecutors
The Trump administration is taking decisive action to secure America’s borders by lifting the federal hiring freeze for prosecutors stationed near the U.S.-Mexico and U.S.-Canada borders. This strategic move will strengthen enforcement against illegal border crossings, drug and human trafficking, and cartel operations that have flourished during the Biden administration.
The exemption from the hiring freeze will apply to U.S. Attorney’s offices in key border states including Florida, New Mexico, Arizona, Texas, Southern California, Northern and Western New York, and Vermont. Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche outlined the directive in a memo dated March 6, signaling a renewed commitment to border security after years of Democrat neglect.
Immigration Enforcement Becomes Top Priority
Border districts are being urged to pursue terrorism and sanctions charges against migrants aiding cartels and criminal organizations that threaten American communities. The new directive is part of a broader departmental shakeup that places immigration enforcement at the forefront of the Justice Department’s agenda.
“Prosecutors must commit to investigations and prosecutions targeting all of the insidious results of the four-year invasion of illegal immigration that we are now working to repel,” Blanche wrote in his memo. The Deputy Attorney General’s strong language reflects the administration’s view that the border situation constitutes a national emergency requiring immediate action.
The Trump administration has already redirected significant resources toward border enforcement, involving FBI agents, U.S. marshals, DEA officers, and tax enforcement personnel. This coordinated approach aims to increase criminal charges against illegal migrants and crack down on “sanctuary” jurisdictions that shelter illegal immigrants from federal authorities.
All Hands On Deck Approach To Border Crisis
In addition to authorizing new hires, the DOJ is encouraging attorneys from Washington headquarters to volunteer for transfers to border districts. These volunteers will be crucial in supporting the increased caseload expected from heightened enforcement activities.
“If not enough lawyers volunteer for these details, the ongoing national emergency may require that attorneys be detailed or reassigned from their current duties at Main Justice to support these efforts,” Blanche stated in his memo. This “all hands on deck” approach demonstrates the administration’s commitment to resolving the border crisis through strict enforcement of immigration laws.
The border enforcement initiative has already shown impressive results, with illegal immigration decreasing significantly under the Trump administration. Recent reports indicate that only about 200 immigrants were encountered at the U.S.-Mexico border on a single day, the lowest number in over 15 years and a stark contrast to the record-breaking numbers seen during Biden’s presidency.
Democrats will say this is an embarrassing Trump “reversal,” but the truth is that the President is just doing what’s necessary to secure the border.
