(PatrioticPost.com)- Toby Keith, a famous country music performer, said in an Instagram post on Sunday that he has been battling stomach cancer.
Keith said he had undergone surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy over the last six months. He needed time to relax and rest, but he would see his fans sooner than later.
Sixty-year-old Toby Keith is well-known for his songs, “Should’ve Been a Cowboy,” “How Do You Like Me Now?” and “Beer For My Horses.”
Keith, who was born and raised in Oklahoma, switched from a job in the oil sector to one in music following employment in the USFL football league. Keith’s self-titled first album, which he released in 1993 after joining Mercury Records, achieved platinum status.
Reports show that Keith was keeping his illness a secret from his fans.
Many of his fans, and fellow country musicians, expressed their support for him in the comments section. However, several fans raised questions about why the country artist held off on disclosing his health. Others prayed for his health.
According to reports, the added stress from a demanding tour may affect Toby Keith’s scheduled chemotherapy or any needed surgery.
The American Cancer Society states chemotherapy is used as a treatment for stomach cancer. Each treatment session is followed by a rest period to allow the body time to recuperate, whereas surgery is complicated and fraught with risks.
Reports show before his cancer diagnosis, Keith spent years fighting for cancer sufferers, particularly children, Through the Toby Keith Foundation, which he established in 2006.
OK Kids Korral, the non-profit based in Keith’s native Oklahoma, is a “free, accessible, and pleasant home for young cancer patients receiving treatment.”
The charity website states there is no better gift than keeping families strong and united through a tough time. They believe they can make a difference in the battle against cancer if they can reduce family tension and inspire and console sick children.
