Controversial Immigration Remarks Spark Outrage
Democratic Representative Jasmine Crockett from Texas, a member of the progressive “Squad,” has ignited controversy with remarks made at Grace Baptist Church’s 125th anniversary in Connecticut. During her speech, Crockett claimed America needs illegal immigrants because American citizens refuse certain types of labor.
“We done picking cotton! We are. You can’t pay us enough to find a plantation,” Crockett told the congregation while arguing for more lenient immigration policies. Her comments were delivered as part of a broader critique against the Trump administration’s approach to border security.
Crockett doubled down on these views during her appearance at the South by Southwest (SXSW) festival on March 8, where she argued that illegal immigrants are essential for America’s economy. A video clip of these comments quickly went viral, amassing over one million views within just four hours.
Despite crossing the border illegally being a federal misdemeanor, Crockett has previously claimed that entering the U.S. illegally “is not a crime.” She has also stated that while illegal immigrants contribute to taxes, they cannot benefit from Social Security benefits.
Mockery of Governor Abbott’s Disability
Beyond her immigration rhetoric, Crockett faces intense criticism for referring to Texas Governor Greg Abbott, who uses a wheelchair, as “Governor Hot Wheels.” This comment sparked national outrage, with many viewing it as cruel mockery of Abbott’s disability. When confronted about these remarks, Crockett refused to apologize, claiming they were not intended to mock Abbott’s condition. However, reports indicate she has a history of making remarks about Abbott’s mobility, further undermining her defense.
U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi issued a warning to Crockett to “tread carefully” after her comments about Elon Musk amid violence against Tesla owners. Crockett’s remarks suggested Democrats should be “OK with punching” to regain political momentum. These statements, coupled with her suggestion that Senator Ted Cruz should be “knocked over the head,” have led to accusations that she is inciting violence against political opponents.
Censure Resolution and Presidential Criticism
In response to Crockett’s string of controversial statements, Representative Randy Weber plans to introduce a resolution in the House of Representatives to censure her. The resolution is currently under consideration by the House Committee on Ethics. President Donald Trump has also weighed in on the controversy, describing Crockett as “a lowlife” and “a very low-IQ person” in public statements condemning her rhetoric.
“Rep. Jasmine Crockett, D-Texas, a member of the far-left group of progressive lawmakers known as ‘the Squad,’ told congregants at a historically Black church that America needs robust immigration because ‘we done picking cotton’.”
Further complicating matters for Crockett, past remarks about Representative Byron Donalds’ interracial marriage have resurfaced, drawing renewed criticism. These comments, along with her dismissal of transgender inclusion in sports as a “distraction,” have reinforced perceptions among critics that her rhetoric is divisive rather than constructive. Fox News Digital reportedly reached out to Crockett’s office for comment regarding these controversies but received no response, suggesting an unwillingness to address the mounting criticism directly.
