Some Canadian Provinces To End Mandates After Truckers Rise Up

( Last week four Canadian provinces began lifting some of their COVID mandates as the truckers’ protest continues to shut down the nation’s capital. But still, Canada’s government refuses to cave.

On Monday, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau invoked the Emergencies Act for the first time in Canada’s history which will grant Trudeau unprecedented emergency powers to crush the Freedom Convoy protests.

The Emergencies Act, enacted in 1988, replaced the 1970 War Measures Act. It grants the government power to strip citizens of their right to assemble if there is a “reasonable expectation” that it may lead to a breach of the peace.

Trudeau now has the authority to prohibit Canadian citizens from traveling within the country. Under this act, the government can also seize control of public utilities and services.

Additionally, the Trudeau government announced yesterday that will begin freezing the bank accounts of those involved in the protests as well as suspending their insurance coverage.

Not all provinces are pleased with the government’s overreaction to the protests. The premiers of Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and Quebec stated yesterday that they don’t support the prime minister’s move.

Saskatchewan’s conservative premier Scott Moe said on Twitter Monday that Saskatchewan did not support invoking the Emergencies Act. Likewise, Alberta Premier Jason Kenney said for the Trudeau government “to reach in over top of us without offering anything in particular would frankly be unhelpful.”

The premier of Quebec, Francois Legault, said Trudeau’s invocation of the Emergencies Act “should not” and “must not apply to Quebec.”

The dope in Ontario, Doug Ford, however, expressed his support of Trudeau’s overreach. Just days ago, Ford issued a province-wide state of emergency. He said Monday morning that he would support any proposal from the Canadian government that would “bring law and order back to our province.”

Do you hear that? That’s the sound of civil rights in Canada getting crushed under the boot of Justin Trudeau.

Canadian civil rights organizations are decrying Trudeau’s use of the Emergencies Act. The Justice Centre for Constitutional Freedoms which provides legal representation to the Freedom Convoy organizers said in a statement that it would “immediately file a court application seeking to overturn such a declaration.”
