(PatrioticPost.com)- Sixty-nine California progressive groups sent a letter to Senator Dianne Feinstein demanding that she either get on board with the Democrats’ bill federalizing US elections or resign.
The activists, claiming they were writing on behalf of 150,000 Californians, demanded “swift passage” of both the Freedom to Vote Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights bill. They also demanded Feinstein “clearly and unequivocally” support abolishing the Senate filibuster so the bills could be rammed through with a simple 51-vote majority.
Then they issued a threat, telling Feinstein that if she was unwilling to give in to their demands, they want her to resign her seat so Governor Gavin Newsom can replace her with someone who will do what they want.
The letter recounts all the falsehoods Democrats have peddled about election integrity laws that have been enacted in many Republican-led states – claiming the laws amount to voter suppression and intimidation. They also claim election integrity laws are “being accompanied” by purges of election officials and a “deliberate escalation of violence.” And, big surprise, they bring up Donald Trump’s “Big Lie.”
In short, the letter could be a monologue from Joy Reid’s show.
Then they get to abolishing the filibuster, claiming that it is the way to stop “permanent minority rule.” To their way of thinking, if the filibuster is abolished, then all the Democrats have to do is “swing the votes of moderate Democratic Senators” to pass the so-called “voting rights” legislation.
They repeat President Biden’s outlandish claim that voter integrity laws in states are as bad as the Civil War, telling Feinstein “our survival as a nation depends on it.” Then they claim if the Democrat voting bills aren’t passed by the new year, “all will be lost.”
They close their letter demanding that Feinstein “step up and fight for our democracy,” threatening that if she doesn’t, she should “step aside” so someone as insane as they are can “take your place.”
Of course, even if Feinstein pays this letter any mind and complies with their demands, there are still two Democrat Senators who do not want to abolish the filibuster. Both Joe Manchin (D-WV) and Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ) have, on several occasions, argued against ending the filibuster for any reason.
