Pope Denies Allegations That He’s Resigning

(PatrioticPost.com)- Reuters reports how Pope Francis is not planning on resigning, despite recent rumors about his health. The outlet revealed how Francis is living a “totally normal life” after his intestinal surgery this July, and gave an interview on Spanish radio network COPE about his experience.

The 84-year-old leader of the Catholic church told the radio network that claims made by an Italian newspaper that he was planning on stepping down were inaccurate, and that he doesn’t know where their claim came from.

“It didn’t even cross my mind,” he said.

Francis also revealed that he plans to attend the United Nations Climate Change Conference which is set to be held in Glasgow, Scotland, in November – a conference that he has attended before, and a cause that he champions regularly.

During the same interview, the pope told the story of a male nurse in the Vatican convincing him to seek medical help and undergo the surgery he needed, rather than continuing his previous treatment of medicines and various antibiotics. The Pope acknowledged that without the treatment he would have died, and said that the male nurse who convinced him to receive the treatment “saved [his] life.”

The surgery took place on July 4 and the Pope spent 11 days in the hospital recovering. He had suffered from a condition known as symptomatic diverticular stenosis, which is defined by the narrowing of the colon.

Pope Francis said that thanks to the treatment, he can eat anything and lead a totally normal life.

To reinforce his commitment to staying in his role, Francis described how he has a full schedule of events to attend lined up, now that the COVID-19 pandemic is coming towards an end. He said that he plans to visit Hungary and Slovakia between September 12 and 15, before heading to Cyprus, Greece, and Malta.
