New Poll Shows Cancel Culture Is Cancelled

(PatrioticPost.com)- A recent survey conducted by Rasmussen Reports on behalf of the National Pulse reveals that Americans have had about enough of Cancel Culture.

An overwhelming 72 percent of American adults believe that the practice of destroying the careers and reputations of people for saying or doing things considered offensive has gotten out of control. Only 15 percent think it hasn’t, while another 12 percent are unsure.

Rasmussen also asked respondents which is more important: protecting people from speech that is deemed “offensive” or protecting the right to free speech.

Seventy-five percent of respondents believe protecting free speech is more important, whereas 16 percent believe it is more important to protect people from offensive speech.

Broken down by party, a staggering majority of Republicans (86 percent) believe cancel culture has gotten out of control. Among non-affiliated voters, 74 percent say it is out of control. But only 60 percent of Democrats agree.

The significant difference among political parties, however, is clearer on the question of which is more important, protecting free speech or protecting people from offensive speech.

Twenty-seven percent of Democrats want people protected from offensive speech rather than protecting free speech. Only 9 percent of Republicans and 11 percent of unaffiliated voters agree. That explains a lot, doesn’t it?

Rasmussen also asked how familiar respondents were with the concept “cancel culture.” Seventy-seven percent said they were. Of those, 53 percent were Very Familiar. Only 15 percent were unfamiliar with cancel culture.

Among the 53 percent who are Very Familiar with cancel culture, 78 percent think it has gotten out of control.

There wasn’t much difference when broken down along racial lines. Strong majorities among every race believe cancel culture has gotten out of control – 71 percent of whites, 73 percent of blacks, and 76 percent of other minorities. Likewise, strong majorities of every race believe it is more important to protect free speech – 76 percent of whites, 73 percent of blacks, and 71 percent of other minorities.

Along gender lines, 75 percent of men and 70 percent of women believe cancel culture is out of control.

Americans under forty are more likely (21 percent) to believe that it is more important to protect people from offensive speech than to protect free speech.

Rasmussen surveyed one thousand American adults on October 27-28. The margin of error is +/- 3 percent.
