New Details Reveal China Is Experimenting With Potential Bioweapons

( The immediate threat posed by China’s military-civilian research effort involves mosquitoes as bioweapon delivery vehicles.

Reports show China has a history of irresponsibility in managing harmful microbes and using genetic engineering.

According to reports, there is no distinction between military and civilian research in China.  When everything has dual-use potential, no research can be deemed inherently harmless.

South China Morning Post reports that Chinese scientists conducted tests utilizing mosquitoes to administer vaccines.

A Chinese scientific team led by Professor Aihua Zheng generated a new hybrid virus by merging the recently discovered flavivirus Chaoyang virus, which reportedly replicates only in insects, with the flavivirus Zika virus, which infects humans.

Flaviviruses are RNA viruses that affect the central nervous system and are significantly more harmful. These include yellow fever, Japanese encephalitis, West Nile, dengue fever, and the Zika virus, notorious for infecting pregnant women and inflicting severe brain damage on their babies.

In the research of Professor Aihua Zheng, mosquitoes infected with the genetically modified Chaoyang-Zika virus would bite animals, eliciting an immune response that would protect the animals from Zika virus infection using anti-Zika antibodies.

Reports show professor Aihua Zheng collaborates closely with China’s People’s Liberation Army (PLA).  Zheng was educated at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York, where he examined the envelope or E-protein of another Flavivirus, the fatal dengue fever virus.

Professor Aihua Zheng received taxpayer-funded research support from Anthony Fauci’s National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases while researching the dengue fever E-protein in the United States.

Flaviviruses are typically transmitted by mosquito and other insect bites and are uncommon in the United States. However, the PLA may be in the process of altering this.

The PLA has long maintained an extensive Flavivirus military-civilian research program that uses genetic engineering to create new combination viruses. Given China’s fusion of military and civilian research, mosquitoes capable of transporting vaccines might also transport bioweapons.
