(PatrioticPost.com)- On Monday, Utah Republican Senator Mitt Romney surprised absolutely nobody when he said that he would vote in favor of the House-passed bill that would establish a 9/11-style commission to investigate the “truth” behind the January 6 Washington, D.C., riots.
Isn’t it incredible just how low this failed presidential candidate will go to spite former President Donald Trump?
Romney is the first Republican senator to say that he would support House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s pet project, which has already been described as a “partisan weapon” by Florida Senator Marco Rubio – another presidential candidate beaten by Trump, but one that isn’t bitter like Romney.
When asked if he would vote with the Democrats to reach the 60-vote requirement to defeat a filibuster in the Senate, Romney confirmed, “I will support the bill.”
That means just another nine Republicans are required to pass the legislation which would establish a commission with an equal number of Republican and Democrat members – a measure designed to make it look as though it’s fair, though it doesn’t take into consideration the fact that the head of the commission will be in charge of hiring all senior staff, and will be able to overrule panel members.
Make no mistake, this is a commission designed to smear Republicans as insurrectionists.
Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer has vowed to bring the commission legislation to a vote in the Senate, but it remains unclear how the Democrats plan to get enough Republicans on board to pass it.
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, who is by no means a Trump supporter these days, has even come out against the legislation. McConnell argued that the existence of several ongoing investigations means an entirely new commission is unnecessary.
Shouldn’t we be talking about the fact that a 9/11-style commission for the January 6 riot is insulting to the people who died in 9/11 and the families affected by it?
