Mike Pence Says 2020 Election had Irregularities

(PatrioticPost.com)- In an interview with the Christian Broadcasting Network last week, former Vice President Mike Pence said he was concerned about irregularities during the 2020 Presidential election and wanted a “fair hearing” about them in Congress.

Pence became a target of frustration and anger among some Trump supporters who had expected him to overstep his constitutional authority and reject the certification of electors on January 6, 2021.

The former Vice President has maintained that what former President Trump and some of his supporters were demanding was not something he had the authority to do.

On January 6, Pence sent a letter to Congress before the joint session began saying that he did not have the constitutional authority to reject any state’s Electoral College votes. In his letter, Pence argued that his role as presiding officer is “largely ceremonial.” He did recognize, however, that members of Congress have the authority under the law to raise objections and present evidence.

And in the eleven months since that day, Mike Pence’s position has not changed.

Pence told CBN News that since the founding of the country, it has been well established that states govern their elections and Congress’ only role “is to open and count the electoral votes” submitted by the states. “No more no less than that.”

Defending his decision, Pence argued that he took an oath to support and defend the Constitution and he wanted to keep his oath. He said he knows “in my heart of hearts” that Congress did its duty under the Constitution, adding that he knows this is one thing on which he and former President Trump will never see eye-to-eye. Pence said he also knows that many of Trump’s “most ardent supporters” won’t agree with him, “but I know I did the right thing.”

In his interview, Pence also discussed the current abortion case before the Supreme Court and how the decision could potentially overturn Roe v. Wade. He praised Trump’s SCOTUS appointments as “men and women of integrity and conviction” and said he will join the “great chorus of Americans” who pray the Justices “have the courage to seize this moment for life.”

This month, Pence will be traveling to New Hampshire, leading some to speculate that he is preparing to run for President in 2024. When asked by CBN if he would run in 2024 if former President Trump enters the race, Pence didn’t flat-out say no. Instead, he said his focus right now is campaigning to help Republicans win back Congress and statehouses in 2022.
