Migrant Group Indicted for Attacking NYPD Police Officers

On July 9th, prosecutors announced the indictment of a group of illegal migrants who they said attacked NYPD officers who were conducting checks on the well-being of three children left unattended at the front of a Queens Wingate by Wyndham Hote that was being used as a refugee shelter.

In connection with an attack on two New York City police officers that occurred on June 17 in Long Island City, the six individuals in question have been charged with attempted first-degree assault, attempted first- and second-degree gang assault, and other offenses.

Two police officers were reportedly assaulted in front of a Long Island City hotel at four in the morning by a group of adults as they were monitoring the well-being of unattended children, according to a statement released by Melinda Katz, the Queens District Attorney. Katz said she would prosecute those who injure law officers to the fullest extent of the law and hold the accused responsible.

In this case, the wanted persons are  Miguel Chiluisa (23), Juan Munoz (25),  Natali Iza (27), Cristian Taipe (30), Alejandro Munoz (42), and Karina Navarro-Chavez (42).

Chiluisa also faces 2 counts of fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, 2 counts of second-degree escape, and 1 count of each of the charges against Iza.

According to officials, the officers were assaulted when they were checking on three youngsters who rode bikes outside a repurposed hotel that now shelters asylum seekers. According to Katz, the police pursued the children and eventually confronted the offenders.

Iza started shouting at the police, and one of the policemen was shoved and hit while the others surrounded him. An officer was reportedly hit by a children’s bicycle thrown by Chiluisa. As the officer took blows to the body, Navarro-Chavez reportedly used an unidentified weapon to strike the back of the officer’s head.

While the rest of the gang started pushing, kicking, and punching officers, Iza reportedly used a children’s bike to hit another officer. Chiluisa escaped the scene after being handcuffed. Not long after that, he was apprehended inside a metro station.

He was found with a broken shackle, according to the authorities. The two law enforcement officials went to the hospital to get medical attention for their wounds, which included shoulder pain and cuts.

This incident seems to echo a January incident in which two New York City police officers were attacked in Times Square by illegal migrants. Migrants started assaulting and hitting the police as they were ordering the mob to disperse.
