The Bronx Bombers lost a two-game series against the crosstown Mets this week at Yankee Stadium. Frustrations spilled over for Yankees supporters, who clashed with Mets fans as both sides threw punches and yelled racial insults and expletives at each other.
In a pair of losses on Tuesday and Wednesday, the Yankees allowed 15 runs while being further humiliated by a nasty post-game altercation by their fans that has now gone viral.
A scuffle involving a dozen or more men, two women, and competing Yankees and Mets supporters is making the rounds on social media, but the video doesn’t show how it started.
The videographer started shouting, “That’s my n*****!” when a shirtless white Yankees fan unleashed a chaotic right hook on a Mets supporter.
A new camera angle has now surfaced, revealing a female fighter who appears to be having difficulty standing up after getting knocked down.
Additionally, there was another shirtless Yankees supporter in the background who flexed for the camera for about ten to twenty seconds, lending some comic relief to a depressing video.
This incident broke out following Tuesday’s much closer 3-2 Yankees defeat to the Mets rather than Wednesday’s 12-3 thrashing.
This was the first season sweep of the Subway Series since 2013, and it happened after three players—Tyrone Taylor, Francisco Lindor, and Pete Alonso—homered off the Yankees’ ace, Gerrit Cole.
Lindor recorded a season-high five RBIs. The Mets shortstop launched a two-run shot off the left-handed Cole and then connected right-handed off Caleb Ferguson. Lindor has hit 21 home runs and has 60 RBI during the 2024 campaign.
With a score differential of 36-14, the Mets repeated their 2013 sweep of the Yankees and went 4-0 this season.
After starting the season 17-3-2, the Yankees (now 60-44) have a record of 10-22 and a record of 1-8-2 in their past eleven series.
This may be the reason for the post-game brawl.
