(PatrioticPost.com)- The days of Liz Cheney being part of a “big tent” Republican Party are over after the Republican National Committee censured her for aiding far-left extremists in their continued efforts to smear former President Donald Trump as an insurrectionist.
Cheney was censured for her work on the House Committee that claims to be investigating the origins of the January 6 riot in Washington, D.C. She was also one of just 10 House Republicans to vote to impeach former President Donald Trump in the wake of the violence.
Now, her actions have lost her the support of House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, who once defended Cheney’s right to oppose the former president.
McCarthy said in an interview with The Federalist that he endorses the campaign of Harriet Hageman, Cheney’s primary challenger who was also endorsed by former President Donald Trump.
“After spending time with Harriet, it is readly apparent that she will always listen and prioritize the needs of her local communities and is focused on tackling our nation’s biggest problems,” he said. “I look forward to serving with Harriet for years to come.”
The comment implies that not only does McCarthy support her campaign, but that he believes she has the support required to beat Cheney in the primary race and to become the next elected Republican congresswoman for Wyoming.
Cheney isn’t doing well in the polls, either. A recent Wyoming state straw poll, published in January, saw Hagemen beating Cheney 59-6.
By the end of this year, Liz Cheney will likely be out of Congress, and a new generation of America First Republicans will be sitting in the House of Representatives and waiting for the next Republican president to arrive…and it could be former President Donald Trump.
