Kari Lake has received a significant boost in her bid to become a US Senator for Arizona with the backing of House Republican Conference chair Elise Stefanik. “Kari Lake is a proven conservative fighter who will secure the border, reduce the cost of living, protect our values, and save America,” Stefanik said as she joined a long list of big GOP players to put their weight behind Lake.
The Arizona firebrand’s backers include Donald Trump, Senator John Barrasso, Rep. Jim Banks, and several others on both the national and local Republican stage.
The Senate seat is currently held by Independent Senator Kyrsten Sinema, who sensationally left the Democrats last year. At the time, she said that, like many Arizonans, she was tired of the party system in Washington, DC, and described Capitol Hill as “broken.” She has not publicly announced if she intends to run for re-election in 2024.
Kari Lake has made her name as one of the most controversial of the GOP’s leading women and one routinely targeted by the mainstream press. CNN called her a “promoter of wildly inaccurate conspiracy theories,” while the Guardian scathingly labeled her an “election denier” and “embittered” by defeat.
Like Donald Trump, Lake believes the 2020 Presidential election was rigged in favor of Joe Biden, and she also challenged the result of her own Gubernatorial election in Arizona last year. The former Fox News host took her election defeat to court, alleging that ballots in the state’s most populous were illegally cast. The courts ruled against her, saying there was no evidence that illegal votes were counted, and when she appealed in February, the appeals court upheld the previous ruling.
The endorsement by Stefanik is the first Elevate PAC (E-Pac) Senate endorsement of the 2024 cycle. Stefanik founded E-Pac in an effort to increase the number of women in Republican seats. Lake’s only republican challenger in the Grand Canyon State is Pinal County Sherriff Mark Lamb.
