Judge Tells Trump Organization To Comply With Subpoena

(PatrioticPost.com)- The Trump Organization has been ordered to comply with a subpoena that was issued by New York Attorney General Letitia James.

James first issued the subpoena more than two years ago. The Trump Organization has been fighting that ever since, but a judge in New York recently ruled they had to comply by the end of April.

Through the subpoena, James’ office wants to see material that was on devices for various employees of the organization, as well as reports regarding which of these devices were searched.

In a hearing held on Monday, Arthur Engoron, a state Supreme Court justice, said:

“I hope we are winding down this whole investigation. One thing all of us can agree on is we want this to end at some point.”

The deadline to turn over all requested documents is April 29. Officials with the Trump Organization say they plan to submit a majority of the documents by the middle of the month.

CNN has reported that officials with the company have said the only device they haven’t searched through yet is a phone that belonged to one of the company’s lawyers, Alan Garten.

In addition to setting the deadline for full compliance, Engoron ordered weekly reports to be produced on the progress. That applies to both the Trump Organization as well as the company that was hired to monitor its compliance with that subpoena, HaystackID.

In a statement that James sent following the court ruling, the attorney general said:

“We are pleased with this order, which will continue to hold Donald J. Trump and the Trump Organization accountable. Once again, it sends a clear message that no one is above the law.”

James and lawyers for the Trump Organization negotiated the deadline for full compliance, according to a report in The Washington Examiner. Then, Engoron ultimately endorsed what the two sides had agreed to.

A status conference is scheduled for April 25 in this matter.

The AG first began the investigation back in 2019 after Michael Cohen, a former lawyer for former President Donald Trump, gave congressional testimony. In that testimony, he said the Trump Organization manipulated valuations of its assets so they could gain financial advantages.

One of the claims that Cohen made was that the company increased these valuations for the purposes of conducting business deals, but then diminished their valuations so they wouldn’t have to pay as much in taxes.

All along, Trump himself has denied these accusations. He’s said that James is investigating him for political reasons. And he’s alleging the same for the criminal investigation that’s being led by the Manhattan District Attorney’s office.

In addition to this subpoena, James’ office has issued subpoenas for Trump as well as his three adult children — Eric, Donald Jr. and Ivanka. Those depositions are currently being challenged, though the Trumps all agreed to turn over some documents by the end of March.

The attorney general is also seeking to gain tax records from one of the Trump Organization’s former accounting firms.
