Josh Hawley Calls for DHS Chief Mayorkas to Resign

( As President Joe Biden’s administration set a new record for illegal immigrants entering the country, Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) is urging Alejandro Mayorkas, the secretary of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), to step down.

According to a reports, the Border Patrol has detained nearly two million border crossers and illegal aliens since October 2021, setting a record for illegal immigration at the U.S.-Mexico border with one month left before Fiscal Year 2022 concludes.

This number does not reflect the presumably tens of thousands of illegal immigrants who have successfully crossed the southern border month after month over the past 18 months without being noticed by Border Patrol. According to a recent research, since Biden assumed office, there have been nearly five million border crossers and illegal aliens in total.

With the revelation of record-breaking illegal immigration, Hawley, a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, wrote a letter on Wednesday calling for Mayorkas to step down:

In it he expressed concerned about the unprecedented proportions of illegal immigration into our nation. He explained how Customs & Border Protection agents have now encountered more than 2 million illegal immigrants crossing our southern border this fiscal year, according to statistics from Biden’s own department. Hawley said even though the year is still young, this number surpasses last year’s record-breaking 1.7 million interactions by a wide margin. In comparison to FY 2020, this figure shows a more than fourfold increase in illegal immigration. Furthermore, he stated, these are simply official figures, which omit the numerous evaders who escaped capture. He said Biden has shown after two years on the job that he doesn’t intend to enforce our immigration rules.

Hawley noted that a record number of 78 people who were on a terror blacklist entered our nation just this year. And they are the only ones we are aware of.
Hawley said, “Your open border policies had a predicted outcome, and that was this. You are unfit to continue serving in government because of your willful contempt for our nation’s immigration rules. You need to step down.”

The Biden administration is releasing border crossers and illegal aliens into American neighborhoods without providing them with tracking numbers, or “A-numbers,” according to a DHS Inspector General (IG) report released this week.

Additionally, the Border Patrol did not always keep immigration records up to date.

The number of border crossers and illegal aliens that DHS released into American neighborhoods between June and August 2022 has not yet been made public by the Biden administration.
