Homan’s Tough Stance on Immigration Enforcement
Tom Homan, the newly appointed “border czar” under the Trump administration, is taking a hard line against sanctuary cities that refuse to comply with federal deportation efforts. Homan’s approach involves using federal funding as leverage against non-cooperative jurisdictions and warns of potential legal consequences for those who obstruct immigration enforcement.
Homan’s strategy includes cutting federal funding to states that do not cooperate with mass deportations of undocumented migrants. This move is expected to face significant resistance from states like California, Illinois, New Mexico, and Arizona, with legal challenges anticipated.

Sanctuary Cities Under Pressure
Democratic-run cities and states, including Los Angeles and Boston, have passed ordinances to resist federal immigration efforts. However, Homan is not backing down from his stance. He has issued stern warnings to sanctuary city leaders, emphasizing the legal ramifications of their actions.
“So day one we’re going to be looking for these public safety threats, arresting them, detaining them and deporting them and if these Sanctuary City mayors don’t wanna help, then get the hell out of the way, because we’re coming, we’re doing it,” Homan said.
Homan’s message is clear: sanctuary cities are protecting criminals, and increased ICE presence will be the consequence of continued obstruction. He advocates for local law enforcement to hand over illegal immigrant criminals to ICE for deportation, prioritizing public safety and national security threats.
The Deportation Plan
The Trump administration’s deportation plan is ambitious, targeting approximately 13 million undocumented immigrants in the US. Homan encourages “self-deportation” to avoid long-term legal consequences for those in the country illegally.
“It’s best for these people to leave on their own so they don’t get an order of deportation that’s going to bar them from a legal entry in the near future,” Homan said.
The plan also involves using the US military for deportations and using federal funding against non-cooperative jurisdictions. Texas has offered land for processing and detaining violent criminals as part of the deportation efforts. However, the mass deportation plan may face logistical and financial challenges, despite lower border detentions under the current administration.
