More than 200 former Republican administration officials have publicly endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris. Staffers from the George HW Bush and George W Bush administrations, as well as those who worked for Senators John McCain and Mitt Romney, back Ms. Harris, saying another Trump Presidency would “irreparably jeopardize” American democracy.
The Trump critics composed a joint letter following the Democratic National Convention (DNC) in Chicago. The letter also featured several anti-Trump Republicans who delivered speeches urging colleagues to back the Democrats this year in the name of patriotism. These included former Rep. Adam Kinzinger, former White House Press Secretary Stephanie Grisham, and Geoff Duncan, who previously served as Georgia’s Lieutenant Governor.
Stephanie Grisham, who faced criticism for not holding press conferences during her employment at the White House, said she was unable to lie for Donald Trump. Ms. Grisham said Mr. Trump has “no empathy, no morals, and no fidelity to the truth.”
Geoff Duncan declared that “doing the right thing is never the wrong thing” and urged Republicans to do “the right thing” and vote for Kamala Harris.
Another noteworthy Harris endorsement came from “The View” host Anna Navarro, who argued that Trump engaged in projection when he accused Kamala Harris of pursuing communism. Navarro described fleeing communism in Nicaragua as a child and said communist leaders attack the media and do not accept political losses. She asked the audience whether Trump or Harris more accurately fit that description.
Adam Kinzinger accused Donald Trump of “suffocating the soul” of the GOP and described him as fundamentally weak.
In their recent letter, the former GOP staff noted significant ideological disagreements with Kamala Harris and the Democrats, but wrote that the “alternative is simply untenable.”
Traditional Republican voters are also expressing their opposition to former President, and a group – Republican Voters Against Trump – has formed. On their website, members give their reasons for turning against Donald Trump, including disrespect for the military and veterans, threatening women’s rights, dishonesty, and setting a bad example to children. One Georgia voter said, “I think that the character contrast between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump is night and day.”
