Hugh Jackman made his first public appearance since announcing the break up with his wife Deborra-Lee Furness on Saturday.
The 54-year-old X-Men actor, who was married for 27 years, was spotted running errands in the Big Apple early in the day. It should be noted that the actor was spotted without his wedding ring on his left ring finger.
Deborra-Lee, his estranged wife and 13 years his senior was spotted in New York City without her wedding band a few days before.
Furness said that they have been married for almost 30 years, and it has been a lovely, loving experience. In a statement by PEOPLE on Friday, the pair explained their decision to split up, saying they decided to separate to pursue their “individual growth.”
The welfare of their children has been and will continue to be their “top priority.” They said with appreciation, affection, and consideration, they entered this new era. They asked that “you please respect their need for privacy during this difficult time in their lives as a family.”
Deb and Hugh Jackman’s signatures appear on the statement, along with the words, “This is the only statement either of us will make.”
Oscar, 23, and Ava, 18, are the couple’s children.
Jackman confessed he and his soon-to-be ex-wife are having a hard time with the breakup during a brief interview with paparazzi in the city on Saturday.
He stated, “It’s a difficult moment,” as he went down the street, but he wouldn’t elaborate on the separation.
They said they had never been away for more than two weeks since their wedding in 1996.
The couple celebrated their 27th wedding anniversary in April, and the Wolverine actor took to social media to brag about his wife, writing publicly that he loved her.
“What a great gift you are to me with your laughter, energy, generosity, humor, cheekiness, daring, and loyalty. Sincerely, I love you.”
Not enough, apparently.
