Hong Kong To Kill 2,000 Animals

(PatrioticPost.com)- Authorities in Hong Kong revealed on Tuesday a tragic plan to kill 2,000 small animals after a number of them tested positive for COVID-19. After an employee at the store, many of the small animals being sold at the store – including hamsters – tested positive also.

The move appears to be an attempt at reducing the spread of the virus, given that it could take several weeks for the virus to incubate and spread across the entire population of animals within the store.

Hong Kong also expects to ban the sale and import of small mammals in the region. The news came from representatives of the Agriculture, Fisheries, and Conservative Department.

Many of the hamsters that tested positive in the store had been imported from the Netherlands, and one employee tested positive for the Delta strain of the virus.

It’s an indication that perhaps the virus was imported into Hong Kong via the animals – and so the temporary restriction on the importation of animals could prevent it from happening again.

Interestingly, however, there is currently no scientific consensus on whether or not animals can spread the COVID-19 virus to the same extent as humans. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has said that animals do not play a significant role in spreading COVID, while Hong Kong authorities have chosen to err on the side of caution.
