Incredible new footage has emerged showing a breaching humpback whale emerging from the ocean and capsizing a boat, sending two people hurtling into the water. The amazing footage went viral early this week and appears to show the large mammal tipping over the 23-foot boat. Colin Yanger, the man responsible for recording the amazing footage, told reporters that he was on a nearby boat at the time of recording.
After the whale returned to the ocean, occupants of Yanger’s boat took quick action and pulled the two people to safety.
According to a statement from the U.S. Coast Guard, nobody in the video sustained any injuries, and the incident has been officially reported to the Center of Coastal Studies Marine Animal Hotline as well and other relevant authorities.
It’s a wild video, but at least the footage was recorded in a place where one might expect a whale to be, right? It’d be odd if a whale or a shark struck from somewhere other than the ocean…
Well, crazy things do happen – and a strange story from Idaho proves that point.
Last year, a shark was seen lying on the riverbank of the Salmon River in the landlocked state. Yes, you read that right – landlocked! The incident puzzled locals and out of towners, and videos quickly went viral. Sharks live exclusively in saltwater, not freshwater. So where could it have come from?
It’s not the first time that something strange like this has happened, either. In August, the city of Riggins, a municipality in the western-central area of the state, reported something strange too. Despite being more than 500 miles from the Pacific Ocean, wildlife officials located a baby salmon shark. Named after their diet – which consists, can reach a length of ten feet at maturity. The shark was deceased, and while initial reactions from citizens may have caused panic, tensions quickly subsided after the Idaho Fish and Game Agency released a statement reassuring the public that no sharks existed in the state’s rivers.
At least, that’s what they say…
