(PatrioticPost.com)- Over the weekend, SpaceX and Tesla CEO Elon Musk offered up a light-hearted, now-deleted Twitter poll, asking his followers if Twitter should delete the “W” in its name.
In just seven hours over a million people voted in the poll that only offered two options: “Yes” and “Of course.”
The poll has since been deleted.
On Saturday, Musk turned down the offer to sit on Twitter’s board of directors after he became Twitter’s largest shareholder.
Musk’s appointment to the board was supposed to be formalized on Saturday, but he informed the company that morning that he would not be joining, leading some to suspect that the restrictions Twitter would have placed on him as a board member were not to Musk’s liking.
As a condition of joining the board, Twitter would have limited the percentage of shares Musk could own in the company. Musk would also be beholden to the board of directors and how they want Twitter to operate.
And that may have been too much for this longtime critic of Twitter’s anti-free speech policies.
Musk has long argued that Twitter has become the “de facto public town square,” and as such, should rigorously defend the right to free speech.
Just days before he secured 9.2 percent of Twitter’s shares, Musk publicly criticized the company for “failing to adhere to free speech principles” which he argued, “fundamentally undermines democracy.”
In another tweet, Musk presented a poll asking Twitter users if they believe Twitter “rigorously adheres” to the principle of free speech. Over 70 percent of the more than 2 million voters responded “No.”
So the question is, did Musk turn down a seat on the board because he is preparing a hostile takeover of the social media company? This is what many believe.
On his show Tuesday night, Tucker Carlson discussed the possibility that Elon Musk is planning a hostile takeover of Twitter to liberate the “de facto public town square.”
