The measure that would have terminated sanctuary privileges for illegal aliens prosecuted for sex crimes against kids was denied in the Democrat-dominated room on May 21st after a California congressman attempted to force a vote on it. The lawmaker had his microphone turned off.
To get the state Democrats on record, Republican Assemblyman Bill Essayli moved to bring AB 2641 to a vote. The measure would have nullified parts of a state statute that forbids local governments from sharing information with federal immigration enforcement, such as when a suspect is to be let go from local police custody or when officers inquire about an individual’s immigration status.
Democrat Jim Wood, who is the acting speaker of the assembly, promptly interrupted Essayli. Suspending the rules to allow a vote on the measure was subsequently proposed, but it was defeated by a vote of 13 to 36.
Essayli said that every single Democrat had cast a vote against it. Their sense of autonomy is so strong that they believe no one can stop them from doing what they want. They are indifferent. They are unable to provide a coherent defense against the deportation of child sex abusers.
All bills must be adopted in the Assembly before the end of the week. Essayli noted that the vote essentially killed the bill.
A recent example involving the arrest of a Colombian national in Massachusetts by immigration officers for sex offenses committed in California prompted Essayli to seek a legislative remedy to the state’s immigration rules. Due to state restrictions, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Office did not inform ICE about the suspect’s upcoming release from a California prison.
State Democrats want California to become a sanctuary for illegal immigrants, according to Republican Dalila Epperson, who is battling Democrat Assemblywoman Dawn Addis.
They have taken a stand, and they want to die on this hill. A sanctuary state for illegal immigrants and abortion is something that Governor Gavin Newsom is pushing for. He wants to make sure they have access to free healthcare and education. No matter what, they cannot be deported.
Last year, the Democrat-controlled Assembly Public Safety Committee faced criticism for its decision to reject a measure that would have federally criminalized the human trafficking of children.
