Governor’s Bold Admission
New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy has ignited a firestorm of controversy by publicly admitting to housing an immigrant with unresolved legal status at his residence. During a recent event, Murphy made the startling revelation about his personal involvement in what some are calling a direct challenge to federal immigration laws.
“Tammy [Murphy] and I were talking about – I don’t want to get into too much detail, but there is someone in our broader universe whose immigration status is not yet at the point that they are trying to get it to. And we said, you know what? Let’s have her live at our house above our garage,” New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy said.
He’s admitted to committing a crime. So what now?
Well, amazingly, Murphy didn’t stop at simply admitting to housing the immigrant. He went further, issuing what many interpret as a direct challenge to federal immigration enforcement.
“And good luck to the feds coming in to try to get her,” Murphy said.
This brazen statement has not only caught the attention of the public but has also drawn sharp criticism from immigration enforcement officials and conservative lawmakers.
Border Czar’s Response
Tom Homan, the newly appointed Border Czar under the Trump administration, has swiftly responded to Murphy’s provocative comments. Known for his tough stance on illegal immigration, Homan has made it clear that he intends to investigate the matter thoroughly.
“I think the Governor is pretty foolish,” Tom Homan said.
That’s an understatement.
“I got note of it. Won’t let it go. We’ll look into it. And if he’s knowingly harboring and concealing an illegal alien, that’s a violation of Title VIII of the United States Code 1324,” Homan added.
The situation has escalated beyond a mere political disagreement, with Homan suggesting that federal prosecution could be on the table. This development underscores the Trump administration’s commitment to enforcing immigration laws rigorously, even when it means confronting state-level officials.
“I would seek prosecution, or the Secretary will seek prosecution. Maybe he’s bluffing. If not, we’ll deal with that,” Homan said.
This could get very interesting.
