Biden’s White House Defends Gwen Barry Turning Her Back On American Flag

( During US Olympic trials held over the weekend, third-place hammer thrower Gwen Berry caused a bit of a stir when she petulantly made a scene during the National Anthem as she and the silver and gold medalist stood on the medal stand. Not to let the moment pass her by, Berry followed up her stomping and pouting by draping over her head a T-shirt with the words “Activist Athlete” printed on them.

Naturally this display of poor sportsmanship created some controversy, with many suggesting that Gwen Berry not compete for the US team in next month’s Tokyo Olympics – especially considering her disdain for both the US National Anthem and the American flag.

On Monday, Fox News White House reporter Peter Doocy brought up Berry’s behavior and asked Psaki if the President thinks it was appropriate from someone hoping to represent Team USA in Tokyo.

Psaki glossed over the question of the inappropriateness of it and instead talked about how proud President Biden is of the country and the national anthem – also throwing in Biden’s support for “our men and women serving in uniform.”

Then, Psaki added the inevitable “But” statement, saying that the President also recognizes that “there are moments where we as a country haven’t lived up to our highest ideals” therefore he would respect Gwen Berry’s right to “peaceably protest.”

Nobody was questioning Gwen Berry’s right to “peaceably protest.” Doocy was asking if making a medal ceremony all about her and acting like a spoiled brat during the national anthem was appropriate behavior for someone about to go to Japan to represent the US Olympic team.

But never expect Jen Psaki to actually answer the question asked.

Berry has already revealed her masterplan is to go to Tokyo and make it all about her and her activism. And not for the first time. In 2019 after winning at the Pan Am Games, Berry raised her fist as the National Anthem played. As a result, Berry was sanctioned.

Perhaps America will get lucky and in Tokyo Gwen Berry won’t even manage to squeak in at third place.
