(PatrioticPost.com)- As Hurricane Ian pushed through North Carolina, Biden has issued an emergency declaration for the state, as officials in the state and neighboring North Carolina assess the damage brought by Ian, according to Breitbart. As Ian touched down near Georgetown, South Carolina, Biden ordered federal assistance to supplement North Carolina’s local response.
As Hurricane Ian moved from South Carolina to North Carolina, the once Category 4 hurricane thankfully downgraded to a post-tropical cyclone, expecting to dissipate over southern Virginia, according to the outlet. Ian reached South Carolina at 85 miles per hour before being reduced to just 35 miles per hour when it touched North Carolina.
Department of Homeland Security and the Federal Emergency Management Agency were both authorized and mobilized under Biden’s declaration in an effort to coordinate disaster relief and to “provide appropriate assistance for required emergency measures” 100 North Carolina counties and the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians.
Charleston was photographed as being hit particularly hard with flooding and downed powerlines in the city center, among many reports of property damage, flooded homes and businesses and power outages.
“Nearly 60,000 homes and businesses remained without power while nearly 325,000 utility customers were affected in neighboring North Carolina,” Breitbart wrote.
Hurricane Ian was a test of resilience for a lot of residents and political leaders, like Ron DeSantis. As the Hurricane battled from Cuba to the Sunshine State, Florida’s coast was expected to be hit particularly hard.
DeSantis issued a state of emergency ahead of the hurricane and notified the areas that needed to evacuate days before the storm was expected to touch the coast of Florida. Two million residents were reportedly ordered to evacuate, and 90 nursing homes had their residents relocated. Efforts to restore power, should it be knocked out, were already underway and 5,000 guardsmen were activated.
After a brief moment of failed communication to the governor on the president’s behalf, the two got on a call to coordinate relief efforts to those impacted by the hurricane.
