(PatrioticPost.Com)- Democratic candidate Joe Biden thinks President Donald Trump is about to pull some shady moves in an attempt to get re-elected.
During an online fundraiser this week, Biden said he believed Trump would try to delay November’s General Election because of the coronavirus pandemic. He said:
“Mark my words, I think he is going to try to kick back the election somehow, come up with some rationale why it can’t be held. That’s the only way he thinks he can possibly win.”
It seems that Biden didn’t do his research before making those comments, though. While the Constitution does allow for presidential elections to be moved, the president does not have the power to do so. In order to change a General Election date, Congress must intervene.
In fact, the Constitution doesn’t set a date for the presidential election, only that the president and vice president must leave office after their term ends on January 20 at noon in the year after the general election.
Despite those facts, Biden called Trump’s actions so far to “undermine the election” “un-American.” He was referring to the fact that Trump said he wouldn’t approve federal aid to the U.S. Postal Service, which has been decimated by the coronavirus pandemic.
Biden claimed:
“Imagine threatening not to fund the post office. Now, what in God’s name is that about? Other than trying to let the word out that he’s going to do all he can to make it very hard for people to vote.”
Biden was jumping on the back of Trump’s recent criticism of vote-by-mail options, where he said he thought it was too easy for people to commit voter fraud. Democrats such as House Speaker Nancy Pelosi have been pushing for states to expand their vote-by-mail options as a way to avoid having large crowds of people show up at the polls on election day — or not show up at all.
Earlier in April, she said:
“Why should we be saying to people, ‘Stand in line for hours,’ when we don’t even want you leaving the house?”
Trump, however, countered that point by saying:
“Mail ballots — they cheat. OK? People cheat. There’s a lot of dishonesty going along with mail-in voting.”
Many states have delayed their primary elections as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, and some have also expanded their vote-by-mail options as well. Biden said if he were elected president, he would work toward allowing same-day voter registration as well as restoring the Voting Rights Act and supporting the Safe Elections Act.
Biden went a step further during the online fundraiser, saying Trump was most likely already colluding with Russia and other bad actors to influence the outcome of the 2020 election, just as he claims the Republicans did four years ago.
“I promise you the Russians did interfere in our [2016] election, and I guarantee you they are doing it again with two other major actions,” Biden claimed. “You can be assured between [Trump] and the Russians, there is going to be an attempt to interfere.”
